27th July 2017. We were woken up by beautiful sunshine in Kamloops in the morning. I couldn’t wait to leave the hotel because we were going to spend the next three days in the most beautiful place in Canada, more than that, in one of the most beautiful places in the world – the Canadian Rocky Mountains. We hoped the weather would be fine for us. Oh, it was indeed!
Spirit Island is a tiny island about halfway down the long and narrow Maligne Lake. It can only be reached by boat and, of course, we reached it this way too.
The boat trip took us about half an hour and then we had time to enjoy the view.
It is a very special place for the Stoney Nakoda tribe who believe that the mountains surrounding the lake symbolize their ancestors, and Spirit Island itself is a sacred place because it is surrounded on three sides by the same mountain range.
We, too, felt that there was something magical about this place, as we stood as if mesmerized by the landscape.
